In a landmark event, Prime Minister Modi and King Charles met at Sandringham Estate after the finalization of the India-UK trade deal. This meeting underscores the growing diplomatic ties between India and the United Kingdom. The Royal Family’s tweet highlighted a significant gesture: the King received a tree symbolizing PM Modi’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ environmental initiative. The trade deal promises major benefits. Almost all Indian exports will be exempt from duties when entering the UK, while duties on UK products entering India will be lowered. This will lead to cheaper goods for Indian consumers. India’s agricultural sector stands to gain considerably, with the UK market opening up to Indian products such as tea, mangoes, and spices. The deal also includes provisions for reducing import duties on UK-produced whisky and gin, and a reduction in tariffs on automobiles, albeit with quotas.
