The Delhi High Court has ruled that dogs are deserving of good treatment, emphasizing their role as humans’ best friends. The court’s statement came during a hearing concerning stray dogs in Delhi. Justice Mini Pushkarna directed authorities to explore methods to minimize conflicts between dogs and humans, including the rehabilitation of stray animals. The court highlighted the importance of protecting and respecting dogs, recognizing their status as beloved animals globally.
During the hearing, the court was informed that over 200 dogs were housed in a temporary shelter, which the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) was planning to demolish, potentially returning the dogs to the streets. The court also noted that 78 veterinary hospitals were currently closed. The Chief Secretary was instructed to prepare for institutional rehabilitation, removing dogs from the streets.
