The Delhi government has put on hold its policy of denying fuel to End-of-Life (EOL) vehicles. Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa communicated the decision to the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), highlighting significant issues with the installed Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) technology. These issues include persistent technical problems, non-functional sensors, and speaker malfunctions. The ANPR system’s inability to identify High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) and its lack of integration with NCR data were also cited as concerns. The absence of a similar ban in surrounding areas further fueled the decision. Former Delhi CM Atishi criticized the decision-making process. A vehicle owner voiced support for the government’s pollution control efforts, emphasizing the need for such measures in other large cities.
