A distressing case from Chikkaballapur, Karnataka, highlights the vulnerability of a widow seeking companionship. A man named Sunil manipulated a widow, Kirti, and married her, even registering the marriage. Tragically, he deserted her while she was eight months pregnant, remarrying and leaving Kirti to fight for justice. Kirti’s husband passed away in 2022, forcing her to work to support her daughter. She met Sunil, from Ambiganahalli, at her workplace in Chikkaballapur. Sunil then deceived Kirti into marriage. Subsequently, Sunil registered the marriage in the Chikkaballapur sub-registration office. Kirti was abandoned by Sunil, who used family opposition as a reason. She then married another woman. Kirti sought justice and went to Sunil’s house in Ambiganahalli, where she was allegedly assaulted by Sunil’s parents and relatives. Police arrived on the scene and rescued the pregnant woman, admitting her to the Chikkaballapur Maternal and Child Hospital. Allegations surfaced that Sunil also molested Kirti’s daughter. Several years prior, a complaint was lodged at the Chikkaballapur Women’s Police Station. Sunil had previously committed to taking good care of his pregnant wife. Kirti, who lost her husband, trusted that Sunil would be her support during her difficult times.
