In the wake of the devastating crash of flight AI171, Air India is purportedly retiring the flight numbers AI171 and AI172 on its Ahmedabad-London Gatwick route. Starting June 17, 2025, these flights will be designated AI159 and AI160. The accident, which occurred shortly after takeoff and claimed the lives of over 274 people, involved a Boeing 787 Dreamliner. The aircraft crashed into a residential area in Ahmedabad. The flight was carrying 242 individuals. Investigations involving the DGCA, NSG, NIA, and Gujarat ATS are ongoing to determine the cause, with preliminary findings pointing to a technical failure. The black box has been recovered, and forensic analysis is underway. Route operations will continue under the new flight numbers.
