Mainpal Dhilla, a known criminal, was apprehended after being extradited from Cambodia on Wednesday. Haryana Police had been seeking Dhilla’s arrest. The operation was a joint effort involving the CBI, the state police, and various central government ministries. Mainpal Dhilla, also known as Maipal Badli, hails from Badli village in Jhajjar and is implicated in 22 criminal cases, including murder. He was serving a life sentence in three cases from 2007 and 2010. While incarcerated, Dhilla was granted six weeks’ parole from Hisar Central Jail on July 17, 2018. He was required to return by August 29, 2018, but he failed to do so and absconded. The CBI, at the request of the Haryana Police, obtained a Red Notice for Mainpal Dhilla through INTERPOL on November 6, 2024. CBI then contacted NCB Bangkok to locate the subject. The inquiry revealed his travel from Thailand to Cambodia. Consequently, the CBI worked with Cambodian authorities, who confirmed his presence in Cambodia under a false identity using a fraudulent passport. A Provisional Arrest Request was submitted to NCB-Phnom Penh, Cambodia, via INTERPOL on March 26, 2025. NCB-Phnom Penh reported his arrest on July 24, 2025, and requested an Extradition Request through diplomatic channels. The Cambodian authorities decided to hand over the suspect to Indian authorities. A team from the Haryana Police traveled to Cambodia and successfully brought Mainpal Dhilla back on September 2, 2025. INTERPOL’s Red Notices are distributed to law enforcement agencies worldwide to assist in locating wanted criminals. The CBI, as the National Central Bureau for INTERPOL in India, cooperates with all Indian Law Enforcement Agencies via BHARATPOL, using INTERPOL channels. This coordination has facilitated the return of over 100 wanted criminals to India in recent years.
