In a significant operation, Rajasthan’s ATS and ANTF jointly arrested Bajrang Singh, a former NSG commando, for heading a significant cannabis smuggling network between Rajasthan, Odisha, and Telangana. Singh, who had been part of the elite unit that countered the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, was apprehended in Ratangarh, Churu, and found to be in possession of 200 kg of cannabis. Hailing from the Sikar district in Rajasthan, Singh was the target of an extensive police search and a 25,000-rupee reward. The arrest followed ‘Operation Ganjane,’ a concerted effort by the Rajasthan ATS and Anti-Narcotics Task Force. ‘Operation Ganjane’ spanned two months, relying on intelligence that Singh employed only Odia cooks who prepared his meals. This information, along with technical details provided by the cooks’ relatives, was critical in his capture. Following his retirement, Singh transitioned into drug trafficking, allegedly after experiencing political challenges. He quickly rose to prominence as a major cannabis smuggler. Law enforcement hopes this arrest will significantly reduce illegal drug trafficking, especially from Odisha and Telangana. Singh’s career began after completing his 10th grade when he joined the NSG. He was a member of the specialized commando team that responded to the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks. His life changed after retiring in 2021, which led to his involvement in organized drug trafficking.
