In a major development within India’s fantasy gaming sector, Dream11 is preparing to shut down its Real Money Gaming (RMG) operations. This decision follows the enactment of the Online Gaming Bill 2025. The announcement was made to employees during an internal meeting on August 20, a day before the bill received approval from the Rajya Sabha. The RMG segment is a crucial revenue source, contributing about 67% of Dream Sports’ yearly earnings. Dream11 is expected to explore new avenues, including non-RMG ventures like Sportz Drip and Fancode, as well as investing in Willow TV, Cricbuzz, and international markets. The company may introduce new game formats designed for global markets, similar to MPL’s strategy. The transition is likely to involve layoffs and cost-cutting due to the significant workforce involved in RMG.
