Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh – The banks of the Sarayu River in Ayodhya were bathed in an ethereal glow on Chhoti Diwali 2025, as the city celebrated its 9th annual Deepotsav with a record-shattering display. This year’s festivities achieved an unparalleled scale, marking the event with two distinguished Guinness World Records.
The highlight was the illumination of an astonishing 2,617,215 earthen lamps, creating a luminous river of light that stretched across the ghats. This monumental effort, made possible by the dedicated work of countless volunteers, university students, and local authorities, has earned Ayodhya a place in the record books.
Complementing the sea of lamps, 2,128 priests performed a spectacular Mahaaarti, setting another Guinness World Record for the largest ceremonial lamp ritual. The combined visual and spiritual energy of the event captivated thousands of devotees and onlookers.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath officially inaugurated the Deepotsav, an event that has become a hallmark of Ayodhya’s cultural and spiritual revival. He spoke passionately about the city’s journey, highlighting the enduring spirit of devotion and the triumph of faith.
The celebration wasn’t just about the lamps and rituals; a mesmerizing laser and light show depicting scenes from the Ramayan added another layer of wonder. This fusion of traditional practices and modern technology created an immersive experience, drawing parallels between earthly celebrations and heavenly grace. The Deepotsav continues to grow as a major spiritual gathering since its beginning in 2017.
