An investigation is underway into the attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta by Rajesh Khimji during a public hearing. CCTV footage reveals Rajesh Khimji surveying the CM’s residence. The accused visited the CM’s Shalimar Bagh residence on a prior day, obtaining the official address from the staff present there. He later returned to the Gujarati Samaj Bhavan in Civil Lines.
The attack took place during a public hearing where Khimji is alleged to have attacked Gupta. He had earlier visited the CM’s private residence in Shalimar Bagh, where staff provided the address of the CM’s official residence and the public hearing schedule.
Sources state that the attacker initially gave papers to Rekha Gupta during the public hearing, followed by the alleged assault. The accused, Rajesh (41), lived in Rajkot, Gujarat, with his family.
Following the incident, the accused was taken into custody and questioned. Senior officials, including the Delhi Police Commissioner, the Chief Secretary, and Minister Pravesh Sahib Singh, also responded to the incident at CM Gupta’s residence.
According to reports, the attacker was seeking the release of a jailed relative. Authorities are investigating the events leading up to the attack and the accused’s motivations.
