The Hyundai i20 involved in the Delhi blast has a convoluted ownership history, with the car being sold five times over 11 years. The most recent buyer allegedly used documentation showing a Pulwama address to complete the purchase. Authorities are investigating how the vehicle, bought for ₹1.70 lakh through an online platform, was utilized in the attack. The accused reportedly planned to finalize the ownership transfer after the incident, following a renewal of the car’s pollution certificate.
Records show the car, registered as HR26CE7476, was first sold by a Gurugram showroom in March 2014. It moved to a new owner in Gurugram in 2017, who later registered it in their name. The ownership chain continued with the car being exchanged through a dealership in March 2024, then sold to a Delhi resident. However, this transfer was reportedly never officially finalized. Subsequently, the vehicle was traded again to a dealership in Faridabad.
At the Faridabad dealership, the car was listed online. Potential buyers, including Aamir Rashid, viewed the vehicle on October 29, 2025. Rashid presented identification with a Pulwama address for the transaction. The sale price was ₹1.70 lakh, and the car was handed over the same day. A dealership employee facilitated the deal and received a commission. Information suggests that financing for this purchase came from an individual connected to Al Falah Medical College.
After the sale, the car reportedly came under the control of an individual linked to the medical college. While the car’s insurance was active, its pollution certificate had expired. This certificate was renewed at a local petrol station before the vehicle was used in the blast. The official ownership transfer was pending completion. The car is still officially registered under the 2017 owner’s name. Notably, one individual connected to the suspects was employed as a plumber at Al Falah University.
