Tragedy struck Telangana as a head-on collision between a state-run bus and a truck resulted in at least 19 fatalities and multiple injuries. The accident occurred on the Hyderabad-Bijapur highway near Mirzaguda, in the Chevella mandal of Rangareddy district, in the early morning hours.
The TGSRTC bus, carrying approximately 70 passengers from Tandur, collided violently with a tipper truck that was allegedly moving on the wrong side. The force of the impact was immense, causing significant destruction and trapping passengers within the bus. The truck’s load of concrete exacerbated the situation, falling onto the bus.
Rescue operations were immediate and intense, with eyewitnesses recounting harrowing scenes of people trapped and calling out for assistance. Local residents and emergency personnel collaborated to pull the injured from the wreckage. Heavy machinery, including three JCBs, was utilized to clear the debris and facilitate rescue efforts.
Among the fatalities are the drivers of both vehicles. The injured have been transported to the nearby Chevella government hospital for treatment, with health officials closely monitoring the condition of those most severely hurt. Authorities have assured that all necessary medical care will be provided.
This unfortunate event has prompted calls for stringent road safety measures and has cast a shadow over the region, particularly given a recent spate of severe road accidents.
