Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil has responded to statements by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the former foreign minister of Pakistan, regarding the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). Patil asserted that India’s decisions regarding the treaty are in the nation’s interest. He dismissed warnings from Pakistan as hollow threats.
When questioned about the treaty’s status, Patil affirmed that the Indian government and the Prime Minister are the sole decision-makers. He stated that any decisions made would be for the benefit of the nation. Patil’s remarks come in the wake of Bhutto’s comments. Patil emphasized that India is not afraid of any threats.
The Indian government’s actions, including the suspension of participation in the IWT, are linked to Pakistan’s alleged support of terrorism. The IWT governs the sharing of water from six rivers in the Indus basin.
