A Kolkata-based journalist bravely fought off an assault on a bus, leading to the arrest of her attacker. The incident involved a 55-year-old man, Sanjay Basak, who was seated in a reserved seat for women on a private bus. The man is accused of slapping, abusing, and molesting the journalist. According to reports, the man initiated the harassment by inappropriately touching the woman. When she protested, he responded with verbal abuse, criticizing her for traveling late at night and suggesting she take a cab instead. The situation became violent when the man threw her bag, slapped her, and tore her dress. Undeterred, the journalist contacted the police and, with the assistance of other passengers, physically removed the assailant from the bus. The police have filed a case against Basak, charging him with multiple offenses including molestation and criminal intimidation. The journalist, who has since undergone a medical examination, will provide a confidential statement to the magistrate.
