The circumstances surrounding the death of Nikki Bhati are under scrutiny, particularly in light of conflicting information provided by her family. Nikki, believed to have been killed for dowry in Greater Noida, was cremated by relatives of her husband, with her father-in-law actively participating in the cremation process. Nikki’s death occurred on August 21st. Her sister, Kanchan, who is married into the same family in Sirsa village, alleged that Nikki was murdered by her husband Vipin and other in-laws by setting her on fire. Kanchan reported fainting at the scene, after which the in-laws reportedly left. A video, however, shows Nikki’s father-in-law, along with other in-laws, at the cremation, with the father-in-law lighting the pyre. Following the funeral, at 12:40 pm, Nikki’s family filed a First Information Report (FIR) accusing Vipin, Kanchan’s husband Rohit, and her in-laws of murder, leading to their apprehension. During the arrest of Vipin, an altercation led to a police officer firing their weapon, injuring Vipin. A previous video surfaced showing Vipin and a woman dragging Nikki by her hair, with visible blood marks on Vipin’s body. Kanchan reported enduring mental and physical abuse, along with her sister, in their in-laws’ home. They were allegedly pressured for additional dowry, and she detailed being severely beaten on the morning of the alleged murder.
