The Constitution Club of India elections saw a unique contest, with BJP members facing each other for the first time, according to BJP MP Kangana Ranaut. She highlighted the confusion, particularly for newer members, who were consulting senior figures for clarity. The election was centered around the secretary position, with veteran BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, a seven-time MP, and former MP Sanjeev Balyan as the main contenders. Rudy had previously held the position unopposed for 25 years, adding to the significance of this election. The results were anticipated by 5 PM. The club had previously held elections in 2009, 2014, and 2019.
The election drew participation from current and former MPs, representing both the ruling and opposition parties. Notable figures such as Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President JP Nadda, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, and CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi participated in the voting. The voter turnout exceeded 500, surpassing the typical numbers for the club’s elections. The voting process occurred between 11 AM and 4 PM.
Sanjeev Kumar Balyan, a BJP candidate, framed the election as transcending party lines, emphasizing its nature as a forum for MPs and former MPs. Rajiv Pratap Rudy, another BJP MP, also viewed the election as inclusive of all parties and lauded the democratic environment and broad participation it fostered.
