The Chhattisgarh State Women’s Commission is dealing with an unusual case. A 28-year-old woman from Raipur has filed a complaint against a 17-year-old minor boy from Balodabazar, alleging sexual exploitation. The woman’s complaint includes a demand for 50 lakh rupees in compensation, along with a request to marry the boy.
The hearing was held in the presence of the commission’s chairperson, Kiran Mai Nayak. During the hearing, school documents, a birth certificate, and an Aadhaar card of the teenager were presented to the commission, confirming the boy’s age as 17 and his minor status. Consequently, the commission determined the matter fell outside its jurisdiction and should be referred to the Child Protection Commission.
Notably, the minor’s father had already filed a complaint against the woman with the Child Protection Commission approximately two months prior. The woman, when questioned, stated her age as 28 and claimed she was initially unaware of the boy’s minor status. She stated she learned of his actual age in February at the Purani Basti police station in Raipur.
Reports indicate the boy, a resident of Balodabazar, was in Raipur to play cricket. He met the woman, and their relationship developed into a romantic one, allegedly including physical intimacy. Later, the woman accused the boy of sexual exploitation and demanded 50 lakh rupees in compensation. She also expressed her desire to marry him.
What was the Women’s Commission’s Response?
After hearing the woman’s claims, the commission clarified it could not resolve the case due to the boy’s minor status. The case documents will be forwarded to the Child Protection Commission for further action.
During the hearing, the commission criticized the woman for engaging in a relationship with a minor and subsequently seeking marriage and compensation, deeming her actions inappropriate. The woman explained she was initially unaware of the boy’s age and only realized the situation later.
The case has now been transferred to the Child Protection Commission, which will conduct a further investigation and determine a resolution, as the Women’s Commission lacks jurisdiction over such matters involving a minor.
