In a move to benefit vehicle owners, the Chhattisgarh government has decided to allow the reuse of preferred or choice numbers from old vehicles on new ones. This was decided during a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai at the Mahanadi Bhawan.
Transport Secretary S. Prakash and Transport Commissioner D. Ravi Shankar confirmed that all technical arrangements for the new system have been finalized. Vehicle owners whose old vehicle registrations have been legally canceled can now transfer the same number to a new vehicle of the same category, or to a vehicle with an NOC from another state.
The process involves online payment of a designated fee. This facility extends to both normal (non-fancy) numbers. The service is applicable only for new vehicles or those transferred from other states and does not extend to existing Chhattisgarh-registered vehicles.
This decision is noteworthy as it provides citizens with the opportunity to reuse their favorite numbers, preserving the sentimental or professional association they have with the old number. Furthermore, it aims to improve the transparency and technical capabilities of the transport department. This move is expected to ease the burden on vehicle owners across the state and simplify the complexities around number allocation.
