In a decisive move, the Education Department in Durg district suspended two teachers, Prafulla Sahu and Seema Sharma, from their posts at the Government Secondary School Mahuda. The suspensions were initiated based on serious allegations of misconduct. According to the department’s order, the teachers were found to be negligent in their official duties, displayed a lack of responsibility, and engaged in behavior that violated school regulations. The events leading to the suspension began when a complaint was filed by teacher Shruti Mishra. She accused Prafulla Sahu of using a student’s phone to record videos and take photos during an examination. It was also alleged that Sahu made inappropriate remarks during the morning assembly and played the harmonium in class, actions that were considered disruptive to the school’s atmosphere. Following the complaint, the Education Department established a two-member investigation committee. The investigation confirmed that Prafulla Sahu had admitted to the allegations. Moreover, it was discovered that he and Seema Sharma would spend time together in a separate room away from the staff, which negatively affected the school environment. Seema Sharma’s performance as the in-charge of the Mid-Day Meal (MDM) program also drew criticism. It was alleged that she failed to provide adequate and nutritious meals to the students as per the prescribed menu. The investigation concluded that the teachers’ behavior breached the Chhattisgarh Civil Service Conduct Rules of 1965, categorizing it as serious misconduct. Based on these findings, the Education Department suspended them under the Chhattisgarh Civil Service (Classification, Control, and Appeal) Rules of 1966. During the suspension period, Prafulla Sahu will report to the Block Education Officer in Gunderdehi, Balod district, while Seema Sharma will report to the Principal of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Dhamdha, Durg district. They will receive a living allowance. The department underscored its commitment to maintaining discipline, stating that any instances of negligence and misconduct will not be tolerated, as the school environment is vital for the education and development of children.
