Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district witnessed a substantial surrender of fifteen Naxalites, including key figures with substantial bounties. Nine of the surrendered individuals carried a collective reward of Rs 48 lakh, indicating their former importance within the Naxalite hierarchy. This development, involving five women and members of the PLGA, was confirmed by Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan. The former militants attributed their decision to the Chhattisgarh government’s commitment to development and effective rehabilitation policies. They specifically highlighted the ‘Niyad Nellanar’ program, which focuses on rural infrastructure, and the ‘Poona Margham’ policy for social reintegration, as crucial influences. Among the high-profile surrenders are four PLGA members, Madvi Sanna, his wife Sodi Hidme, Suryam alias Ravva Soma, and his wife Meena alias Madvi Bhime, each previously carrying an Rs 8 lakh bounty. Other surrendered cadres included individuals with bounties ranging from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 5 lakh. To facilitate their return to society, each individual received an initial sum of Rs 50,000, with promises of ongoing support through government programs. This surrender is part of a larger trend, with over 2,150 Naxalites having surrendered in Chhattisgarh over the last 23 months, a testament to the success of peace initiatives.
