The Chhattisgarh government, under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, has declared that democracy fighters in the state will be given state honors during their final ceremonies. Furthermore, their families will be provided with financial aid amounting to ₹25,000. The announcement was made during the Emergency Remembrance Day program held at the CM House. The event was attended by cabinet ministers, MLAs, and MPs, and also featured the honoring of democracy fighters. During the event, Chief Minister Sai criticized the previous Congress government for halting the schemes meant for democracy fighters. He stated that these fighters did not receive their due financial assistance for the last five years. The present government will be providing the pending dues. The Chief Minister highlighted the Emergency as a dark phase in India’s democratic journey and stressed the importance of every generation being aware of it. He shared that his own family was impacted by the Emergency, with his grand uncle spending 19 months in prison. He witnessed numerous families destroyed due to the arrest of their breadwinners. The Chief Minister explained that it is the government’s moral duty to look after democracy fighters, reinforcing the government’s dedication to safeguarding their respect and rights. This move is seen as a genuine acknowledgment of the respect and contributions of the fighters who fought to uphold democracy.
