A new system for ration distribution has been implemented by the state government. This change is coinciding with the ‘Chawal Utsav’ (Rice Festival) which began on June 1st to distribute rice for June, July, and August in one go. The updated rules mandate that ration distribution is now contingent upon the successful verification of an OTP sent to the beneficiary’s mobile number. This replaces the previous method of identification via thumb impression.
To receive their ration, beneficiaries now need to share the OTP received on their mobile. Individuals who visit ration shops without a mobile phone linked to their Aadhaar card are experiencing difficulties. They must contact someone at home to get the OTP before receiving their food supplies. This new process has created delays. Public service centers are experiencing increased foot traffic as people seek to link their Aadhaar numbers to their mobile phones to comply with the new requirements.
