Chhattisgarh is considering extending the deadline for ration distribution, providing relief to numerous ration cardholders. The current deadline of June 30th may be pushed to July 20th, 2025. This proposed extension covers the distribution period from June to August 2025. The state government’s Food Department, under the guidance of Food Minister Dayal Das Baghel, has communicated this request to the central government via an official letter.
The letter explains that the extension is necessary due to the large number of biometric transactions and the ongoing upgrades to the e-POS machines, which have caused delays. The state serves approximately 8.1 million families, involving 34.1 million biometric transactions. The distribution process was further impacted by heavy rainfall in May. Authorities are optimistic that the deadline extension will allow them to efficiently distribute rations to all eligible beneficiaries.
