Raigarh: Police have arrested a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman after befriending her on Facebook and promising marriage. The accused, identified as Dayaram Sidar, was apprehended by the Mahila Thana police and has been remanded in judicial custody.
The incident came to light after the victim filed a complaint on June 30, detailing the events that transpired after she met Sidar on Facebook in 2021. The two subsequently cohabitated in a rented apartment in Raigarh.
The woman reported that Sidar initiated physical relations with her on April 9, 2022, under the pretense of marriage. Despite repeated assurances of marriage, Sidar is accused of sexually exploiting the victim for approximately four years, moving between various rented properties in Raigarh.
The victim alleges that Sidar used emotional manipulation to repeatedly delay the marriage, providing excuses and eventually refusing to follow through on his commitment.
The Mahila Thana swiftly acted on the complaint, registering a case under Section 69 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following a medical examination, the police apprehended Sidar. He confessed during questioning and was subsequently arrested and presented before the court.
The swift action was credited to the Mahila Thana in-charge Sub-Inspector Deepika Nirmalkar, Assistant Sub-Inspector Saraswati Mahapatre, and their team. The police investigation is ongoing.
