A concerning incident of cyber theft has come to light, highlighting the vulnerability of online banking. A young man’s bank account was compromised, resulting in the loss of ₹2.35 lakhs. The fraudulent activity was facilitated by the use of an OTP (One-Time Password). The police are investigating the matter following a formal complaint.
The victim, Rakesh Suryavanshi, was targeted while residing in a rented accommodation in Vinoba Nagar, which falls under the Tarbahar police station area. The fraudulent transaction occurred shortly after he received an OTP message on his phone. The stolen amount totaled ₹2,35,338. When he subsequently checked his account balance, he discovered that only ₹1,423.97 was left.
Authorities have taken the case seriously, registering a case against unidentified individuals under sections 318 and 4 of the BNS. The investigation is ongoing, with police working to trace the culprits and recover the stolen funds.
