Raipur MP Brijmohan Agrawal has raised serious objections to the proposed MLA colony in Nakti village, expressing concern over the potential displacement of numerous underprivileged families. He has written to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, requesting an immediate stop to the construction. The disputed land, spanning 15.4790 hectares (Khasra number 460), is currently inhabited by over 80 impoverished families, some of whom have benefited from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. Furthermore, the area includes community buildings and other government infrastructure. Agrawal highlighted that the land is considered a shared resource by the villagers, historically used for grazing, and that the Gram Sabha and Panchayat also oppose the colony’s construction. He urged the government to avoid actions that would render people homeless and suggested the colony be built on vacant land or an alternate location. Former MLA Devjibhai Patel met with Agrawal to share the villagers’ plight, noting that most are below the poverty line and depend on the land for their livelihoods. Agrawal has called upon the Chief Minister to halt the construction and maintain the existing conditions. This situation has brought the issue of development versus displacement back to the forefront. Agrawal emphasized the importance of development without causing hardship to the poor. This intervention has generated optimism among the local population, who now await the government’s response.
