Raipur MP and senior BJP leader Brijmohan Agrawal has raised strong objections to the proposed construction of an MLA colony in Nakti village, which is currently occupied by impoverished families. He has written to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, requesting that the construction be halted immediately. The Chhattisgarh Housing Board plans to build the colony on a 15.4790-hectare plot (Khasra number 460), but over 80 poor families have been living there for years. Many have homes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and there are existing community buildings and government structures. Brijmohan stated that this land serves as a shared resource for the villagers. The Gram Sabha and Panchayat also oppose the colony’s construction. He has urged the government to avoid development that leads to homelessness.
Former MLA Devjibhai Patel met with Brijmohan and presented a memorandum highlighting the villagers’ plight. Most of the residents live below the poverty line, and the land is vital for their livelihood and dignity. Brijmohan has requested the Chief Minister to stop the construction and maintain the current situation, suggesting the colony be built on available vacant land. This situation has brought the development versus displacement debate to the forefront. Brijmohan believes development is important but should not displace the poor. The villagers are hopeful that the government will take action in their favor.
