Favorable monsoon conditions, driven by a system in the Bay of Bengal, are bringing rain to many parts of India. Delhi is set to receive monsoon rains, offering respite from the heat. The city is under a yellow alert, with light to moderate rain expected, and temperatures ranging from 35 to 27 degrees Celsius. The rainfall is anticipated to last until June 29th, with heavier downpours expected in early July.
Northern India, including Punjab, Haryana, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan, is also expecting rain until June 30th. Himachal Pradesh is already covered by the monsoon and has experienced heavy rainfall. An orange alert is in place for several districts in Himachal, warning of very heavy rainfall. Dharamshala saw a torrential downpour accompanied by thunder, leading to power disruptions, waterlogging, and damage to crops.
Authorities are cautioning tourists and residents to stay away from riverbeds and areas prone to landslides, due to the increased risk during heavy rain. Reduced visibility caused by fog could also cause problems for drivers. The weather forecast indicates continued rain in the mountains, although the Western Disturbance is expected to weaken.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are bracing for heavy rainfall through June 27th. Heavy rain is also expected in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, and Sikkim until June 28th. Central, eastern, and northeastern India are likely to see heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next week. The forecast for Northeast India includes light to moderate rain, thunderstorms, lightning, and heavy to very heavy rainfall in various locations.
