Raipur, May 27, 2025/ The Chhattisgarh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, has taken a major decision with the aim of improving the quality of school education. The Education Department has issued an order for the rationalization of a total of 10,463 schools in the state, which includes 5849 schools of E-category and 4614 schools of T-category. This order has been implemented with immediate effect.
This rationalization order is in accordance with the guidelines of the National Education Policy 2020 and the Right to Education Act 2009, the main objective of which is to ensure balanced and effective use of educational resources.
Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai has said that the visionary decision of the School Education Department is a strong initiative towards making school education better, inclusive and effective. Chief Minister Shri Sai, while appreciating the Education Department’s decision regarding the rationalization of schools, said that this step is going to give a new direction to the education system of the state. He said that this decision will not only ensure better use of teachers’ resources, but will also give students the opportunity to get quality and continuous education.
The Chief Minister said that the adjustment of schools of different levels in the same campus is not only administratively useful, but it will also ensure the continuity of education and also get rid of the problem of student dropouts. This will make the school environment more effective and also increase the confidence of the children.
He said that this step taken in accordance with the National Education Policy 2020 will prove to be a milestone in making Chhattisgarh a leading state in the field of education.
School Education Secretary Shri Siddharth Komal Pardeshi informed that 10,297 schools operating in the same campus have been rationalized under the rationalization of schools. Apart from this, 133 schools located within a radius of one kilometer in rural areas and 33 schools located within a radius of 500 meters in urban areas have also been rationalized. He said that with this initiative, it will now be possible to deploy surplus teachers in teacher-less and single-teacher schools. This will also lead to a direct improvement in the quality of education. Additional availability of teachers can be ensured due to rationalization, which will also create a balance in other needy schools. This adjustment will also reduce the establishment expenses, which will make more investment possible on the educational infrastructure.
School Education Secretary informed that the dropout rate of children will decrease and the student retention rate will improve due to the continuity of studies in the same campus. Rationalization of schools will not require children to take admission again and again, which will make their educational journey easier and more continuous. He said that rationalization will also make it easier to prepare better infrastructure in school premises, in which libraries, computer labs, science laboratories and sports facilities can be shared. This step of the state government is in accordance with the cluster school concept proposed in the National Education Policy, where education from primary to higher secondary level is ensured in an integrated campus. He said that only administrative coordination has been done in this process, and no post has been abolished. This step will enable equitable distribution of teachers and provide quality education to children more easily. Rationalization has been done while following the provisions of the student-teacher ratio under the Right to Education Act 2009, which will play an important role in improving the level of educational quality in the state.
“This initiative of the Chhattisgarh government will not only strengthen the current educational infrastructure, but will also lay the foundation for a permanent, empowered and inclusive education system for future generations. The visionary decision of the School Education Department to rationalize schools is a strong initiative towards making the education system of the state better, inclusive and effective. Rationalization will not only ensure equitable distribution of educational resources, but will also give children the opportunity to get quality and continuous education. This is an important step towards making Chhattisgarh a leader in the field of education.”
