Raipur, August 12, 2025/ The ambitious Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana being run by the Government of India towards environmental protection and energy self-reliance is now reaching every locality and settlement of Korba district. This scheme has not only provided huge savings in people’s electricity bills, but has also made an important contribution to the protection of the environment through clean energy. Mr. Shankar Puri, a resident of Housing Board Colony, Dadar Khurd, Korba district, has filled his life with new energy by establishing a ‘Suryaghar’ of solar energy on the roof of his house.
*3 kilowatt capacity solar rooftop, subsidy of more than one lakh rupees*
Mr. Shankar Puri, who lives with his family in Housing Board Colony, was always worried about the expense of electricity bills and the problem of power outages. After getting information about the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Yojana, he decided to take advantage of the scheme without delay. Under the scheme, he installed a 3 kilowatt capacity solar rooftop panel on the roof of his house. The biggest feature of this scheme is that beneficiaries are provided direct grants (subsidy) from the central government, which reduces the burden of initial investment considerably. Mr. Shankar Puri also received a subsidy of Rs 78 thousand directly in his bank account under this scheme. This helped him to cover a large part of the total cost of installing solar panels. The state government will also soon provide a grant of Rs 30 thousand to Mr. Shankar Puri.
*Environmentally friendly, reduction of 3.5 tons of carbon emissions*
Since installing solar panels, Mr. Puri has been saving on his electricity bills every month. He says that this saving becomes a large amount in a year, which he is able to spend on other needs of the family and children. Also, this system is also beneficial for the environment. The use of solar energy reduces carbon emissions by about 3.5 tons annually, which is an important step towards making the environment clean and pollution-free. Mr. Puri says that he feels proud to know that his small effort is also a part of the global efforts to fight climate change. He said that the process of the scheme was very transparent and simple.

Sharing his experience, Mr. Puri, while thanking Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mr. Vishnu Deo Sai for the scheme, said – “I appeal to all citizens to definitely take advantage of the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Yojana. This not only saves money, but also ensures a clean environment for future generations. There is no need to be afraid of the initial cost, because the subsidy from the government and long-term savings make it a profitable investment.”
