The murder of a young woman in Korba, Chhattisgarh, on December 24, 2022, resulted in a life sentence for the perpetrator. Sahban Khan, a 30-year-old resident of Ahmedabad, was convicted of brutally murdering his 20-year-old girlfriend. Driven by jealousy and suspicion, Khan first raped the victim and then inflicted 51 stab wounds to her chest with a screwdriver.
Khan, a bus conductor, had traveled from Ahmedabad to Jaipur. He worked for the Chishti Bus Service, which operated between Jaipur and Korba. It was during this time that he met the victim, a student from the Madanpur area, who frequently used the bus. Their relationship developed, and Khan had expressed intentions of marriage. However, the situation took a dark turn when the woman began communicating with another man. This fueled Khan’s anger, and he attempted to stop her, even threatening her mother.
On the day of the murder, Khan flew from Ahmedabad to Raipur and then made his way to Korba. He stayed at a hotel before going to the victim’s home. A heated argument occurred, leading Khan to commit the heinous act. He raped the victim and then repeatedly stabbed her with a screwdriver, ultimately killing her. No one else was present at the house during the incident.
The victim’s brother discovered the body and alerted the police. The investigation revealed crucial evidence, including blood-stained items. After an extensive investigation, involving the cyber cell, Khan was arrested in Gujarat. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime. The District Court found Khan guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment. He was also fined 75,000 rupees and faces an additional 18 months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.
