A devastating fire erupted at Indira Market on Station Road in Durg early Saturday morning. The fire started in the Khatri Electronics store and its associated warehouse, quickly spreading through the building. Firefighters, supported by the ongoing rain, worked to bring the blaze under control. The fire team confirmed that the situation is now contained, and efforts to extinguish the fire are almost complete. The incident, which occurred around 11:30 AM, resulted in the destruction of electronic goods valued in the lakhs of rupees. An assessment of the damage is currently ongoing. Witnesses reported that the presence of electrical wiring and other highly flammable materials within the shop contributed to the rapid spread of the fire. Preliminary investigations suggest that a short circuit might be the cause. This marks the second significant fire in the area within a span of three days, following a previous incident at a leather shop. Political figures have criticized the administration and the electricity department’s handling of these incidents. Former Congress MLA Arun Vora urged the administration to take immediate action and investigate technical failures. BJP MLA Gajendra Yadav highlighted the issue of flammable materials like plastic and POP pipes stored in various shops, contributing to the swift spread of fires. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. The authorities have launched an investigation and are preparing a comprehensive report to determine the cause of the fire.
