The education system in Chhattisgarh is under scrutiny following revelations about a government school in Dhamtari district. Despite having only three students, the school continues to operate with two teachers, a headmaster, and an assistant teacher. The annual expenditure for this primary school in Nathukonha is reported to be in the lakhs of rupees.
The school offers classes from first to fifth grade. However, only three students are currently enrolled, all in the first grade. The school’s headmaster and an assistant teacher are tasked with educating these three children. The education department allocates between 10 to 12 lakh rupees each year to cover the salaries of the two teachers. Additional expenses include the school’s upkeep, supplies, the mid-day meal program, and utilities.
