    Farmers Should Receive Benefits of Irrigation Projects: Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai

    Instructions Given to Make Special Efforts to Increase Water Use Efficiency

    Chief Minister Reviewed the Functioning of the Water Resources Department

    Raipur, May 12, 2025/ Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai today conducted an in-depth review of the works of the Water Resources Department at the Chief Minister’s residence office with the aim of strengthening the state’s irrigation infrastructure. He said that special attention should be paid to the maintenance and repair of the existing irrigation projects in the state. Chief Minister Shri Sai directed senior departmental officers to regularly conduct field visits and instructed them to ensure that water wastage is prevented and maximum use of water is made in agricultural activities.

    Chief Minister Shri Sai reviewed the water storage capacity of all the dams in the state, the current irrigation status, and the progress of upcoming projects. He said that the use of modern techniques is necessary to prevent losses in water transportation through canals. Chief Minister Shri Sai directed to prepare necessary action plans through underground pipeline system to increase water use efficiency. Along with this, he also directed to make concrete action plan to reduce the gap between designed irrigation capacity and actual capacity in irrigation schemes. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that necessary action should be taken to complete the long pending schemes in Bastar and Sarguja divisions.

    Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai directed to complete the under-construction major projects soon so that the farmers can get the benefit of the scheme in time. He asked to prepare necessary proposals as soon as possible to get financial assistance from the Government of India for major projects. The Chief Minister also directed to prepare proposals for the construction of projects in 26 development blocks declared as Critical/Semi Critical from the point of view of ground water in the state.

    On this occasion, Water Resources Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap gave instructions regarding early completion of under-construction major projects. In the meeting, Secretary Water Resources Department Shri Rajesh Sukumar Toppo informed the Chief Minister about the departmental activities and also apprised him about the under-construction and proposed irrigation schemes.

    Chief Secretary Shri Amitabh Jain, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shri Subodh Singh, Special Secretary Finance Smt. Sheetal Shashwat Verma, Principal Engineer Shri Indrajit Uike and other senior officers of Water Resources Department were present in the meeting.
