In a disturbing incident from Durg, Chhattisgarh, a woman’s own sister is implicated in the kidnapping and sale of her 8-month-old nephew. Sukhairin Bai, residing in Kasaridih, reported the abduction of her infant by her sister, Sangini. Police action led to the uncovering of a Bihar-based gang and the arrest of five individuals, including a retired FCI (Food Corporation of India) employee, an unqualified doctor, the woman, her boyfriend, and an associate.
Investigations revealed that the retired FCI employee, Gauri Mahto, sought an heir to resolve family property disputes. He contacted a local, unqualified doctor, Badal (Mithlesh), to acquire a child. A deal was made for ₹7 lakh (approximately $8,400), leading to the plan to kidnap the baby.
The victim stated that her elder sister, Sangini, invited her to Patna in June. Sukhairin was kept in a room for five days. On July 8th, Sangini and her boyfriend dropped Sukhairin at the station and fled with the baby after providing her with a ticket. Following the train’s departure, Sukhairin became suspicious and reported the incident to the police.
Police investigations showed that Sangini orchestrated the abduction by luring her sister to Patna. She gave the child to Pradeep, who then gave the child to the doctor. The doctor sold the baby to Gauri Mahto for ₹7 lakh. The investigation also exposed that the doctor was running a clinic without proper medical qualifications.
Pradeep and Santosh were tasked with bringing patients from rural areas to the doctor’s clinic, receiving commissions in return. Following the exposure of the entire criminal network, Sangini, Santosh Pal, Pradeep Kumar, Dr. Badal, and Gauri Mahto were arrested. They were brought to Durg on transit remand and subsequently presented in court on Friday, where they were sent to jail.
