A gruesome double murder has shaken the Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh, occurring on the auspicious day of Vijayadashami. The incident took place in the village of Raykera, within the jurisdiction of the Ghargoda police station. The victims, a mother-in-law and her son-in-law, were discovered deceased inside their home. A female family member was also found seriously injured at the scene. Police have initiated an investigation.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Sukmet Sidar, aged 80, and her son-in-law, Lakshman Sidar, aged 60. Authorities suspect that both were victims of strangulation. Sukmet’s daughter sustained serious injuries and was immediately transported to Tingni Hospital for medical attention. Medical professionals have expressed concerns about her critical condition.
Following the report, the Ghargoda police station and a forensic team promptly arrived at the crime scene. After examining the evidence and the condition of the house, police believe the deaths were the result of foul play. Initial findings indicate the murders occurred late Thursday night. Currently, the police have detained Lakshman Sidar’s son and a neighbor from the village for questioning, based on their suspicion.
Police sources suggest that a dispute over land compensation might be the primary motive behind the double homicide. Sukmet Sidar had recently received compensation from NTPC for the acquisition of land. Reports indicate that the family had been embroiled in an ongoing dispute over the funds. The police suspect that this conflict led to the tragic events.
Details reveal that Lakshman Sidar resided with his in-laws, Sukmet Sidar’s family, since his marriage. He had a son and two daughters. There was an existing atmosphere of tension within the family concerning finances and property. Villagers indicate that the dispute intensified after receiving the compensation.
Police officials have stated that the post-mortem report will provide further clarity regarding the cause of death. While no formal arrests have been made, three family members are currently in custody and undergoing continuous interrogation.
