A disturbing double murder has shaken Raigarh district in Chhattisgarh on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami. The incident occurred in the Raykera village within the jurisdiction of the Ghargoda police station. Two members of the same family were found dead. The victims were a mother-in-law and her son-in-law. Their bodies were discovered inside their home, while another female family member sustained serious injuries. Police are actively investigating the crime scene.
The deceased individuals have been identified as Sukmet Sidar, aged 80, and her son-in-law, Laxman Sidar, aged 60. Authorities suspect they were victims of strangulation. Sukmet’s daughter was severely injured and was promptly taken to Tingni Hospital for medical attention. Medical professionals have indicated that her condition is critical.
Upon receiving reports of the incident, the Ghargoda police and a forensic team promptly arrived at the scene. Based on the evidence collected and the circumstances at the location, the police believe murder is likely. Initial investigations suggest the crime took place late Thursday night. Currently, the police have detained Laxman Sidar’s son and a neighbor from the village for questioning, considering them as potential suspects.
Police sources suggest that a dispute over land compensation may be the primary motive behind the double homicide. Recently, Sukmet Sidar, the elderly woman, received compensation from NTPC for land acquisition. Reports indicate that the family had been embroiled in ongoing disagreements regarding this financial matter. The police suspect the murder was a result of this conflict.
Laxman Sidar, the deceased, had been residing with his in-laws, specifically at Sukmet Sidar’s residence, since his marriage. He is survived by a son and two daughters. The family had experienced persistent tensions concerning finances and property. Local residents report that the dispute escalated following the receipt of the compensation payment.
Police officials have stated that the autopsy report will provide further clarity regarding the cause of death. While no formal arrests have been made yet, three members of the family are in custody and are undergoing continuous interrogation.
