In a bizarre turn of events, a man in Chhattisgarh faked his own drowning at the Gangrel Dam, leading to an extensive 12-day search operation. The missing person, Hemant Chandravanshi, was presumed to have drowned after his clothes and footwear were discovered near the dam. Extensive search efforts were initiated, but the man was later found in Delhi. Investigations revealed that Chandravanshi, burdened by debt, orchestrated the incident to escape his financial woes. The incident unfolded on May 24 when Chandravanshi and his companions arrived in Dhamtari and stayed at a resort. On the following day, he sent his friends to a shop and disappeared, leaving behind his belongings. His friends informed the police, who started searching for him in the water. When the search proved futile, the police investigated further. His mobile phone was tracked, and his location was traced to Delhi. Police apprehended him and brought him back to Dhamtari for further questioning. ASP Manishankar Chandra confirmed that the man was facing severe financial difficulties, which prompted the deceit.
