Monthly Pension Increased from ₹2000 to ₹5000 – 162 Artists to Receive Respect and Support
Raipur, May 14, 2025 / In a significant and emotional decision taken at the Cabinet meeting held under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, the state government has increased the monthly financial assistance (pension) amount from ₹2000 to ₹5000 per month for those artists and litterateurs of the state who are struggling with financial difficulties.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that our artists and litterateurs are the soul of society. Their contribution is invaluable. This decision is not just financial assistance, but a symbol of the state’s sensitivity and respect towards them. He said that this decision is a fulfillment of the announcement made in the budget session, and our government is committed to the empowerment of every section of society.
This pension is given under the Financial Assistance Scheme Rules-1986 of the Culture Department. This scheme was started in 1986, when the assistance amount was a minimum of ₹150 and a maximum of ₹600. Later, it was increased to ₹1500 in 2007 and ₹2000 in 2012, but there had been no increase in it for 12 years.
It is noteworthy that a total of 162 artists and litterateurs in the state are currently receiving this monthly pension. Now they will get ₹60,000 annually instead of ₹24,000, which will enable them to meet their basic needs better.
With this amendment approved by the Council of Ministers, the state will incur a total additional annual expenditure burden of ₹58.32 lakh. Earlier, the total annual expenditure was ₹38.88 lakh, which will now increase to ₹97.20 lakh annually. But this expenditure is a matter of pride for the state government.
Chief Minister Shri Sai said that it is our responsibility to maintain the self-respect of those who have dedicated their lives to the service of art, literature and culture. This decision is proof of sensitive and inclusive governance. This step of the government will not only provide economic support, but will also provide self-confidence and social prestige to the artists and litterateurs.
