Chhattisgarh is celebrating its 25th year since its establishment in 2000. Under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai’s guidance, the state is experiencing a new phase of development. The state is emerging as a hub for a green revolution, particularly solar energy. The ‘Solar Energy to Prosperity’ initiative, driven by the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana, and the state government’s complementary subsidies, is propelling Chhattisgarh towards energy independence. The core objective of the Pradhan Mantri Suryaghar Muft Bijli Yojana is to provide clean and free energy by installing solar panels on every rooftop. The Chhattisgarh government’s policy boosts this further, transforming it into a ‘double guarantee’ program. This enables consumers to reduce their electricity bills while generating income through surplus electricity sales. The state government’s added subsidy is a major highlight. Initially, the central government offered up to 60% subsidy, and the state government has added to this. This means low- and middle-income families can benefit from free electricity. The Sai government, collaborating with banking institutions, offers loans with a 6.5% interest rate for up to 10 years. EMIs will be significantly lower than existing electricity bills, allowing consumers to invest in solar systems and enjoy lifelong free electricity. Solar energy is more than just free electricity; it creates a new stream of income. Homes can sell excess electricity back to the discoms. A 2-kilowatt or larger plant can generate over 200 units of electricity monthly for 25 years. The benefits of the scheme also exceed the maximum discounts offered under the half-electricity scheme. Chhattisgarh is transforming its consumers into energy producers and sellers. The scheme ensures a steady supply of free, reliable energy for 20–25 years. It generates additional income through the sale of surplus electricity. Solar panels contribute to a greener lifestyle. The half-electricity bill scheme will give relief to the poor. The consumption of up to 100 units will receive a 50% discount. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai aims to have solar panels installed on every roof in the next 5 years, positioning Chhattisgarh as a green energy model for India. The scheme’s impact is being felt in rural areas. Farmers are selling excess electricity. Rural industries can also be powered by solar energy. The scheme is also reducing electricity bills in urban areas. Apartment complexes are also launching collective solar energy projects. Pollution is also being addressed. The production of solar panels, their installation, and their maintenance is producing new job opportunities. Small and medium businesses are also benefiting. The goal is to ensure a clean environment for future generations. Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai has transformed the scheme into a public movement. The focus is on energy self-sufficiency for every household. The goal is for Chhattisgarh to become a leading solar energy state.
