The introduction of OTP verification for ration cards by the Chhattisgarh government has created problems for the public. The system is causing delays and difficulties, especially in rural areas where network connectivity is unreliable. This change has negatively impacted ration distribution, leaving many facing food insecurity.
The primary issue is the poor network connectivity which causes significant delays in receiving OTPs. Both ration shop owners and consumers are facing problems. Individuals have been forced to wait at ration shops for hours, sometimes days, before receiving their rations. This has caused considerable distress, particularly for those who rely on these rations for their daily sustenance. The previous fingerprint-based system was much more efficient in comparison.
The slower processing rate due to the OTP system means that fewer customers are served daily. The public is requesting that the government either reinstate the fingerprint system or allow both systems to operate simultaneously to improve efficiency. The current situation has raised concerns about people potentially going hungry due to these delays.
In addition to the OTP problems, there’s also a significant concern about the lack of kerosene at ration shops for the last eight months. This is essential for rural communities. The government is urged to promptly address the OTP issues and also ensure that kerosene is available to those who need it.
