Police in Korba, Chhattisgarh, recovered a body, leading a family to the police station to make an identification. They believed the body was that of their 27-year-old son, Hariom Vaishnav, who had gone missing four days earlier during a trip to his in-laws’ place. The body had a tattoo of the letter ‘R’ and resembled their son in physique. Accepting the identification, the family took the body home to prepare for the funeral. But, before the rites could begin, a surprising event occurred. At the door stood Hariom Vaishnav, very much alive. The neighborhood initially reacted with fear, mistaking him for a ghost. The truth of the situation, however, sparked amazement and joy. The incident unfolded in the Visrampur Gevra area under the Kusmunda police station. Hariom, who was married and whose in-laws lived in the Darri area, went missing without any communication during a visit with his family four days earlier. His family had been searching, and a missing person report was filed with the Darri police.
Meanwhile, a body was recovered from the Ahiran River in Danganiya, under the Bankimogora police station. Based on the missing person report, Hariom’s family was called to identify the body. The family identified the body by its build and the ‘R’ tattoo on the hand. The body was confirmed to be Hariom. Due to being in the water, the body was badly swollen, making facial recognition hard. The police, after completing legal formalities, sent the body for a post-mortem and then gave it to the family for the funeral. It was at midnight, while the family was organizing the funeral, that Hariom returned home alive. The family couldn’t believe their eyes. Now, they were left to puzzle over the identity of the body. The police were notified, and the Kusmunda police alerted the Bankimogora police, as the body had been found in that jurisdiction. The body was taken to a local hospital mortuary, and police are now tasked with identifying the deceased.
