The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has launched a raid in Chhattisgarh, creating a stir in the state. The target is Vijay Agrawal, a major railway contractor and owner of Hotel Sagar International. ED officials initiated the raids at Agrawal’s Durg-based locations on Tuesday morning, deploying teams accompanied by CRPF security.
Preliminary information reveals that the ED is focused on scrutinizing documents and questioning individuals at Agrawal’s premises. It is believed that Vijay Agrawal’s business interests are diversified across various firms. The business operations were previously managed by a trio of brothers, but recent divisions within the family have altered the dynamics. The ED’s investigation spans the entire group, including all brothers. The family’s involvement was also noted during the prior Chhattisgarh government’s administration, specifically regarding the Mid-Day Meal program, where contracts were allocated. Additionally, some members of the group have faced accusations related to the Rail Neer scandal.
Reports suggest that the ED’s actions are not restricted to Durg, with operations underway in Raipur, where the family maintains other business interests. The Courtyard Marriott Hotel in Raipur, owned by the family, is also potentially under investigation. Although an official statement is awaited from the ED, the operation is anticipated to extend throughout the day. The ED’s repeated actions in Chhattisgarh are expected to further influence the state’s business and political environment.
