Chhattisgarh is experiencing ongoing heavy rainfall, with significant downpours in Raipur and other regions since Wednesday night. The Meteorological Department has issued weather alerts for central and northern Chhattisgarh, with an orange alert in effect for 17 districts and a yellow alert for 11.
Orange Alert Districts: Kondagaon, Kanker, Dhamtari, Balod, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, Mahasamund, Raipur, Baloda Bazar, Janjgir-Champa, Bilaspur, Korba, Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi, Durg, Bemetara, Kabirdham, and Mungeli are under an orange alert, anticipating thunderstorms, strong winds (30-40 kmph), and moderate to heavy rainfall.
Yellow Alert Districts: Sukma, Bijapur, Dantewada, Bastar, Narayanpur, Raigarh, Jashpur, Surguja, Surajpur, Korea, and Balrampur are under a yellow alert, with possible light rain and strong winds.
Recent Impact: Heavy rainfall has led to waterlogging in Bilaspur, with homes in Parijat Colony and Nehru Nagar affected, causing property damage and power outages. Chhattisgarh has received approximately 300 mm of rainfall in the last 23 days, including 198.2 mm between July 1 and July 11. The average rainfall in the last 24 hours was 12.1 mm. Bilaspur recorded a high of 34.2 degrees, while Durg saw a low of 21.6 degrees.
Tragic Incidents: In Surguja, three fatalities were reported due to lightning strikes, while two minors were swept away in the Jamrav Anicut in Durg district, with one body recovered. The Raipur DEO office campus also experienced waterlogging. The public is advised to heed weather alerts and exercise caution during the rainy period.
