The Chhattisgarh Assembly witnessed a heated situation as Congress members protested against the shortage of fertilizers and seeds. The opposition party brought forth an adjournment motion to discuss the issue. Dr. Charandas Mahant, the Leader of the Opposition, initiated the debate, raising concerns about the unavailability of fertilizers and the high prices farmers were forced to pay. He accused the government of deliberately creating a scarcity, negatively impacting agricultural output.
Former CM Bhupesh Baghel supported the motion, emphasizing the urgency of addressing the fertilizer shortage. Former minister Umesh Patel highlighted the farmers’ discontent caused by the lack of DAP fertilizers and called for a discussion. Assembly Speaker Dr. Raman Singh sought the Agriculture Minister’s response to the opposition’s claims. Agriculture Minister Ram Vichar Netam refuted the allegations, stating that there was no shortage. He therefore opposed the discussion. Following the minister’s statement, Congress MLAs created a commotion in the House and entered the well of the House, resulting in their suspension from the assembly proceedings.
