A significant advancement in cancer research has emerged from Chhattisgarh, India, where scientists have discovered the potential of a unique rice variety to combat the disease. Studies at the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University have shown that ‘Sanjeevani’ rice, a rare strain from Bastar, can destroy cancer cells. The discovery offers hope for millions, presenting a possible alternative to conventional cancer treatments such as surgery and radiation. The rice, which has been the subject of extensive research, contains several compounds with anti-cancer properties. Human trials are slated to begin soon at the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital.
