A potential Naxal attack was averted in Bijapur district owing to the alertness of security forces. On Saturday, during a demining operation conducted on the Gorna-Mankeli road, security personnel discovered and neutralized a powerful command IED weighing 10 kilograms.
The incident occurred shortly after Naxalites murdered a young man in the same village on Friday, creating widespread panic. The following day, the Naxalites attempted to target security forces by planting explosives on the road, but their plan was unsuccessful.
The demining operation on Saturday was a joint effort by DRG Bijapur, the Bijapur Police Station, and a BDS team. During the search, an electric wire was spotted by the soldiers. The area was immediately secured, and an extensive search was launched.
This search led to the discovery of the IED, concealed within a steel tiffin box. The device weighed approximately 10 kilograms and was connected to an electric wire extending 70 to 80 meters. The BDS team expertly and cautiously defused the explosive. A video documenting the destruction of the explosive has been made public.
Authorities have stated that the Naxalites intended to harm both security forces and local civilians. The quick action of the security forces prevented a major disaster and foiled the Naxalite plot.
