*211 schools with zero enrollment in the state*
*Despite teachers being deployed, there are no students*
*Lack of teachers in remote schools leads to decline in exam results*
Raipur, May 28, 2025/
According to the rationalization report presented by the Education Department of Chhattisgarh, there are a total of 211 government schools in the state where there are no students, while teachers are deployed in these schools.
*Zero student enrollment, yet teachers are posted*
Looking at the district-wise data, the Government Primary School Sajabhavna and Harratikra of Batouli block of Surguja district are examples of this. There is not a single student in Sajabhavna school, yet an assistant teacher is working here. At the same time, a head reader and two assistant teachers are working in Harratikra school despite zero enrollment. The education department says that the relevance of such schools has ended and the process of transferring the teachers posted here to schools in need has been started.
*Severe shortage of teachers in remote areas*
On the other hand, there is a severe shortage of teachers in remote and inaccessible areas of the state, which is directly affecting the academic performance of the students. Due to the lack of subject-wise teachers in Government Higher Secondary School Kunwarpur under District Manendragarh-Chirmiri-Bharatpur, the result of the Higher Secondary examination in the year 2024-25 was only 40.68 percent. This figure is much less than the average exam result of the state.
*Villagers raised their voice during the Chief Minister’s visit*
During the visit to Kunwarpur, the villagers demanded the appointment of teachers in front of Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai himself. The villagers say that teachers for important subjects like science, mathematics and English have not been available for years, due to which students are not getting quality education.
*Education department started the restructuring process*
Seeing these conditions, the education department is now re-posting the teachers working in such schools under rationalization, where they are actually needed. According to departmental sources, the teacher rationalization process will be completed soon, which will improve the education system.
*Experts’ opinion*
Experts associated with the education sector believe that this step was necessary for a long time. While teacher-less schools are struggling, on the other hand, teachers were not being used in schools without students. If rationalization is done in a transparent manner, it can strengthen the education system.
