A political debate has emerged regarding the length of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent Independence Day speech from the Red Fort. The BJP has defended the Prime Minister by contrasting his addresses with those of previous leaders, particularly Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi. According to BJP data, Nehru’s speeches averaged around 20 minutes, while Indira Gandhi’s were also relatively brief. In contrast, PM Modi has consistently spoken for over an hour. The BJP’s analysis also touched upon the context of those earlier speeches, implying that the nation’s early leaders did not address pressing issues with the same detail. The BJP shared that Nehru delivered 17 speeches at the Red Fort totaling 400 minutes, while Indira Gandhi delivered 16 speeches totaling 504 minutes. The BJP’s counter-argument suggests that PM Modi’s lengthy addresses are indicative of a more comprehensive approach to addressing the nation’s challenges.
