Gaya’s Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC), part of the Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), is poised to become Bihar’s largest industrial township. The project, covering 1670 acres in the Dobhi block of Sherghati sub-division, involves a total investment of ₹1339 crore, including the land cost. Upon completion, the industrial node is anticipated to attract substantial manufacturing investments and generate a large number of jobs, thereby contributing to regional development. The state government, having acquired the land, is aiming for the agency selection to be finalized by March 2026, as directed by the Chief Secretary. The EPC tender for the industrial township is slated to be floated in early July 2025, developed in collaboration with the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC). The IMC Gaya is one of 11 industrial corridors being developed under the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme. Key sectors targeted for establishment at IMC Gaya include agro and food processing, ready-made garments, and technical industries encompassing auto components, steel-based products, aerospace, defense, building materials, furniture, handloom, and handicrafts. This initiative aims to secure ₹16,524 crore in investments and create over 109,000 jobs upon completion. The project received approval from CCEA in August 2024 and environmental clearance in March 2025. The state government also approved a 7 km green field alignment connecting the site to the Golden Quadrilateral, and has implemented business-friendly policy reforms. The presence of a UNESCO world heritage site, professional institutions and skilled manpower in Gaya will support the growth of the IMC.
